The Kalanchoe comes in many variations and colors and is an ideal indoor plant; for anyone who does not have a green thumb and of course for anyone who does. It is also an amazing plant to mix and match with other varieties of Kalanchoe and with other green or flowering indoor plants. Kalanchoe plants grown in pots indoors require the same basic care as the outdoor plants. They grow best in clay pots for aeration and need drainage holes in the bottom. Setting the container on a dish filled with rocks or gravel provides extra drainage. Place them in well-lighted areas.  Kalanchoes are low-maintenance house plants and are very easy to care for. Give them a bright, sunny spot. Do not water them too much – wait until the top few centimeters have dried out. Deadhead the fading flowers. Known as wan zi qian hong – meaning thousands and millions of red and purple in reference to its small flowers – the kalanchoe is an easy plant to grow and is said to bring wealth and prosperity.  Because a kalanchoe lives longer than one year, you can control its vegetative or flowering period based on your desires. Flowering often occurs during winter, when daylight periods are short. If you cover the plant for more than 12 hours each day to simulate short daylight periods, it will develop blossoms. In its native region, Kalanchoe can bloom almost year-round, but as a container houseplant, it is most commonly blooming in late winter to late spring. This cycle will slow down as lighting increases.
