Persian violets are a short-lived biennial flower (meaning they commonly only last two growing seasons) that are often grown as a houseplant or outdoors in tropical and subtropical regions. In its native range Exacum affine is an annual or short-lived perennial and is suitable for permanent outdoor cultivation only in humid tropical and subtropical areas. Grown as a pot plant, this plant requires a well-drained, but moist potting mix. Exacum will tolerate good light but not direct sun. In addition to being used as a home decor, Persian violets are also commonly used as ground cover to add some greenery due to its densely-grown greenish leaves. On the other side, as an outdoor cultivation, Persian violet blooms in spring and summer. Exacum affine likes slightly acidic potting medium. African violet potting mix is ideal.
